Lately there has been some talk about maybe raising the membership dues to belong to SCLS to cover some of the rising costs that the club may have to pay. Some of the points I've heard that have been made to raise money are:

  • Members that store their equipment at the club should pay more or members that run trains should pay more.
  • Adding a "Friends of SCLS" membership for people that just want to help out by buying a membership to show their support of club, or live more then 30 miles and only come out to the club a few times in a years time.
I'm thinking at this point the club should keep the membership cost at $60.00 a year as raising the cost of membership just makes a lot of hard feelings and there is little gain to the club's bank account unless we raise them by a lot. If the club runs out of money to pay the bills at that point we ask the members that can help out do so and go from there.

What do you think? Let us Know.

I'm with you Tom.  The active members who are ever present are not only putting in the time, but also extra personal funds - some big, some small - for the upkeep.  What makes SCLS attractive is its family friendly atmosphere.  Junior member Dale invited our family after a couple of years of coming to almost every run day.  While I may have started coming to run days and joining the club to support my “boys,” I’d like to think that Robert, Ben and I are developing life-long friendships with club members.  We are here to support in whatever the club decides.  On another note, I think the plan for Halloween night runs to raise funds is a great idea.  Let’s try it out and maybe we can make this a big annual fundraising that would generate enough to cover the annual cost of insurance.

I also agree with you both of you. I think that the money that comes in via donations should be enough to cover our costs. Anything additional like track expansion, or construction projects can be done using additional member donations or specific fund raising events that are slated just for that project.

I agree $60 is a fair amount, raising it any higher would more than likely cause a loose of money not a gain due to many people being unable to afford the higher fees.
