The day started out overcast and very humid and warm. We all helped in getting things ready for the public run at 12:00 PM. The SCLS general business meeting was held outside under the trees and once finished, everyone chowed down on Daisy's Loco Moco which was fantastic as always.
Prior to the start of the run we had a flag raising ceremony by Richard & John Finlayson and Phil Cohen. We had a load of trains running today! Tim and Jillian Brothers were out running the Jillie Belle a nice RMI Forney, Jim Berryman and Charlie Giordano were running Jim's 70 ton C&P #12. Howie had his UP1205 SW1500 out with Bob Diaz as his conductor. The club's SW1500, Western Central #777, was out and was driven by our new member Richard Finlayson and his son John. Mark Jordan finally fixed his SD45-2, BN9601 and had it out on the rails pulling passengers. Welcome back Mark, have not seen you for a while! Tom Downing brought out the Santa Fe F7 11500 after helping Mark with his engine and pulled passengers with Andy as his conductor. The F7 was then followed with Kelly Smith's Santa Fe 1244, a GP38, pulling his 5 riding cars. Dave Cox had his Red Car trolley out pulling a passenger car for those that wanted to stay local. We had 8 trains running for the 3 hours and pulled approximately 800 passengers. The station was never empty even though the heat and humidity was high. Ben's Lemonade stand did a land office business! After the run we relaxed and Daisy fed us her humongous stuffed baked potatoes with all the goodies, including super pucker power lemonade and something new, mint and lemon grass infused green tea. Very refreshing I must say. It started to drizzle for about 30 minutes while we were scarfing down Daisy's super spuds and then the sky cleared up and it became beautiful evening. In a scene reminiscent of Alfred Hitchcock's film "The Birds", Benjamin brought out his crow call and amazed everyone by attracting every crow within a 5 mile area! Took a lot of guts to look up as there were little gifts raining down upon us! Ah that Benjamin, what we going to do with him? Well that was about it for the run day, we get to come back next Sunday for a special run day for the Hope Chapel and get to do it all over again. We will be open from 12:00 to 3:00 PM if you want to stop by. Next Regular Public run day will be Sunday August 4th at 11:00 am. Hope to see you all there! |
