There are a few members that are going to try to run steam locos at four live steam clubs in four days or nights. This came up as riverside and OC have their spring meets on the same weekend. So Rory and Tom D. put a plan together to make the best of this. On day one Thursday 4-22-10 Rory, Donna and Tom met at So-Cal and pulled out their steamers and ran them around the club layout for a few hours. It rained off and on all day but the sun came out just before we got to the club. I'm guessing we have the live steam gods on are side for this bunch of running. We then loaded the steamers up in to our trucks and that went smooth so we went out to dinner. On day two 4-23-10 so far Tom d after doing a few e-mails with Charlie and Steve unloaded his steamer from his truck in to his shop and when back to so-cal and load up the club 4-4-0 and got the Propane tanks filled to go to LALS on Friday night. This was done as tom d was having a hard time with the lubricator on his loco and no one seemed to have a good way of getting the clubs 4-4-0 out to the other clubs. The clubs 4-4-0 is much bigger than Toms loco and all the club members that know how, can run that loco as Toms is also not a easy loco to run, so we where one loco down but had a back up. I will update tomorrow. Edited by Steve C - Apr 24 2010 at 7:59pm |

All went well at the LALS night run we had, So-Cal members Steve, Katy, Charlie, Todd, Alley, Wyatt, Tom, Rory, and Donna met LALS members Rob L, Phil T, Todd M, and his son's Russell, and Conner Fleming, Oscar and his friend, Leonard E stopped by for a bit to take it all in. There was some other LALS members that showed up but just sat in there car in the packing lot and stared at the going ons for a bit and then left. We had 6 live steam locos running Oscars was 3/4" scale and ran the inner loop the rest were 7.5 gage and it was a lot of fun. It looked like all the qualified So-Cal members got a turn on the club steamer around the LA layout. We ran till about 11 pm when the rails became to dewy to run on, so we called it quits for the night and some of us had to go to work in the morning. We would like to thank the LALS members there for showing us a good time. Now we are off to OC, I got to clean the injector and pop offs and I think we are good to go on the club 4-4-0, Rory's loco ran great and I got some time running it, boy what a fun little loco, that steams well.

Well OC went good and the club 4-4-0 run much better after I cleaned the injector and Steve played with the adjustments on the pop offs, but I think I can change a few things on the plumbing and make it much easier to run this loco. The So-Cal club had a good turn out of members at OC. We had the club 4-4-0 and Rory had his 0-4-0, Howie had is battery powered box cab and a few cars, Mark J had his SD40 and a train of cars out, Steve C, Tom D, Rob L, Charlie, Tod, and Alley, not too bad and we all had a good time. There was a great turn out of steamers, the most I have seen at OC in some time. We ran till sunset and then loaded up. Now we are off for Riverside for a Sunday run at their meet.

We did it! 4 in 4 is done, Rory's 0-4-0 ran good the whole time the clubs 4-4-0 was OK, but I will keep at my shop to change a few things on the plumbing to make it a little nicer to run, Riverside was nice, it wasn't to hot, weather wise and there was a good turn out of live-steamers for their meet. I didn't think I ran that much but I burned up two tanks of gas and that's as much as we had burned running at the other clubs all put together. I had a pin in the johnson linkage fall out when I was in the yard switching out some cars for Scott from Ridgecrest, it made for a few exciting moments, untill I got the loco back under control and stopped. I fond some copper tubing in the stock car and did a patch job on the link to finish up the day. After looking it over with a few others we thought the lay out of the link is not right. I will make some changes to the link parts. We have had the timing go off in the past and this link may have had something to do with that. My plan is to put all this info and more together for a good read soon.
