One of the final assembly steps of the tender is to install the railing around the rear of the tender. RMI supplies the short vertical tabs that are tapped for 1/4-20 screws. They also supply 2 each 8 foot lengths of 3/4" x 1/8" steel strap and some large rivets.

The vertical tabs are screwed in place and then the strap is held to the vertical tabs by C clamps. The strap is drilled from the rear using the holes in the tabs as a guide. The first rivet is installed and then dimension checked against the tender top so it is even all around.
The metal strap is then bent around the corner trying to keep the same radius as the tender body.

Many C clamps are used to hold the strap in place and to form the radius. Here I am using the rivet bucking bar that I made as a form for the radius bend. Working my way around it with the C clamps, putting in small bends as I go.

After the strap was completely bent around and riveted in place, the excess was sawed off with a hacksaw so it was flush and the edges were ground smoothed with a hand held grinder.

This railing will be removed from the tender and powder coated black. The tender will be powder coated dark blue.

You only need three tools in life - WD-40, Duct Tape, and a Hammer. If it doesn't move and should, use the WD-40. If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape. If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.
