About the Southern California Live Steamers

History:

S.C.L.S. was established in 1948, in Mrs. Lewis' (Founder of Little Engines) back yard, in Lomita CA.  We began laying track and operating at Wilson Park as early as 1986. Click HERE for a more in depth history of the Southern California Live Steamers.

Mission Statement:

Our mission is to educate the public about our rich railroad history and promote interest in the Live steam railroading hobby.  All our members are City of Torrance Park and Recreation Volunteers.  We are very fortunate to have the generous support of the City of Torrance and our community riders.

Location:

Wilson Park, Torrance CA.  The park is located on Crenshaw Blvd. between Sepulveda Blvd. and Carson St.  We are in the back (South East corner) of the park at 2100 Washington Avenue, (not a Mailing Address).

Public Run days:

The 1st Sunday of each month 11 A.M.-3 P.M. and the 3rd Saturday of each month from 12:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. Check the site calendar for additional information.

Meeting:

The 3rd Saturday of each month is our business meeting (10:30 A.M. - 11:30 A.M.), followed by the public run.

Visitor information:

We are a small club with a BIG job!  We give on average 500-1000 rides, each public run day.  Visitors wishing to volunteer (i.e. Boy and Girl Scout projects) or become members, please check in at the Depot with SCLS personnel.  The Southern California Live Steamers is funded completely by it's members and the donations received during our public run days. If you would like to make an additional contribution to help out with our operations and upgrade of our track and equipment please Email us

Visitors from other Live Steam clubs are welcome to run their engines after a safty briefing and inspection, however we can not allow you to pull public passengers train.  We have some tight curves (less than 60').  We regularly operate a 4-6-2 Pacific and 2-6-2 and 2-4-4T N.G. Steam locomotives as well as -9, GP38,  SW-1500, and a large RMI diesel locomotive.
