Comments: This is the So Cal club's 1" scale LE 0-4-0 camel back sitting on Rory's flat car which is its new home for the time being. Charlie has made it his main project to get it running with some help from his club friends. The boiler tag said 1998 on it, so it looks like some time has past since it was last steamed up. His goal is to have it running for the LALS meet in May. We will post more info on the forum page as time passes on this project.

this will be a great project. need to tke of injector and clean that and then run some pluming so steam can get into that thing. The axel pump needs alot of work from what i here but that shudnt be too much of a problem. soon well be adding a third rail!

Charlie: This locomotive was designed, built and castings sold by Ed Puryear in 1958. Parts were also sold by Bob Harper in Wilmington and finally by Little Engines. I built one of these in the 1960's when I was 14. It runs but has a serious design problem in the firebox. The crown sheet is an arch which leaves little space for both steam and water. I put very enlarged steam dome in the cab to take care of the steam problem but be sure that the axle pump, injector and hand pump are in working order. I've always wondered what happened to this locomotive, I'm looking forward to seeing her go!

o wow thats soo cool to hear from the original owner! I'd love to have you come down to LA with us and the gang for its for steaming! She looks in good shape and the last guy that ran it told me she steamed very good so we will have to see what happens

If I recall, I think that Bob Harpur was a member of SCLS many years ago. There is a picture of him in the archives at a 1949 Golden Spike Ceremony. Check this out, he is #14 the one in the middle just to the left of Stan Chovil in the engineer hat.
