Part of Steam locomotive maintenance is cleaning the boiler Check valves, water injectors, and safety pressure valves. The Steam locomotives at SCLS are small but they are real steam locomotives just smaller then there full size counterparts. They take a lot of maintenance time and the bigger the load they pull the more maintenance is required. This type of maintenance work takes special training and is very time consuming. That is the main reason when you come out for train ride at SCLS you most often see diesel or electric locomotives giving rides. That is also the same reason you do not see steam locomotives on the full size railroads vary often if at all. SCLS is small in size but we face many of the same challenges that full size railroads do but that’s all part of the fun for are members. |
