At a recent run day at SCLS, Kelley Smith was cleaning out his storage container and came across an old notebook filled with the old minutes of The Southern California Live Steamers from its early days. Also in the notebook were some letters and some copies of articles written about club members. This note was found with Dick Jackson, one of our founding members explaining to another person the actual starting date of SCLS. Although incorporated back in 1948, the actual start date of the club was September 18, 1941.
Below are copies of two pages from Live Steam Review of the 1949 edition of Railroad Model Craftsmen Magazine written by formers founding SCLS member Dick Bagley. Some interesting images showing members of SCLS riding their trains around the Lewis home (Little Engines) and the home of Dick Jackson.
Some very special people can be seen riding the train including Walt Disney, Ward Kimball, Ollie Johnston and our very own Harlan Hiney's dad, Lawrence Hiney. Those must have been some very interesting days.
Enjoy the trip down memory lane. If you have more info about these documents please leave a message in the comment section below. As I scan more of the old documents I will post more articles.
