SCLS 3rd Annual New Year's Day Steam Up

By Phillip Cohen - Torrance, CA

A new tradition, the Annual New Year's Day Steam Up

Tom and Mike double heading

The Southern California Live Steamers held it's 3rd Annual New Years Day Steam Up on Tuesday, January 1st, 2013. We had a great time and brought out some of the locomotives that don't run too often. We also had some visitors from the Maricopa Live Steamers in Phoenix and Mike Masse from Mojave with his beautiful Chloe steam locomotive.

Daisy prepared a nice lunch of Curry with rice and some very good BBQ sausages. Everyone went back for 2nds and 3rds. There wasn't any leftovers, so that just tells you how good it was.

The new figure-eight track got plenty of use with lots of trains running around the loop. Everyone obeyed the rules and there were no collisions. It was a lot of fun and while a bit chilly, it was a beautiful day. Everything was nice and green because of the previous rainy rain storms and looked very pretty. The Crenshaw line saw some action as all of the trains made it down there going all the way to the end. It will be nice when the final construction is complete and the new turntable is installed at the end of the line.

The Annual New Years Day run has become a tradition now. We hope that more of you will join us for the fun next year!

Have a healthy and happy 2013 and keep on steamin!!!
