The time is here. We now run on both the 1st Sunday and the 3rd Saturday of each month. The March 21st run day was a lot of fun and I look forward to seeing more and more riders each month. We had a great time with the Torrance Elementary Kindergartners on Monday March 2nd, helping support "National Read a Book Day". We are planning, for the first time, a special event (open to the public), "Golden Spike" day. The actual day is May 10th but since "Mother's Day" is Sunday May 10th, we will celebrate "Golden Spike" on Saturday May 9th. We will be celebrating 140 years since the joining of 1,776 miles of track, completing the Transcontinental Railroad on (May 10th 1869). The meeting together of the Union Pacific R.R. and the Central Pacific R.R., at Promontory Summit (Promontory Point) Utah, Sparked much needed National pride and unity, following the Civil War. The ceremonial last spike was a "Golden Spike". We plan to have a small re-enactment ceremony and some other activities. We are continuing to look for ways to raise funds to purchase new riding cars. I am pleased that we have raised at least $500 towards our first new car. We hope to get local businesses to contribute and take advantage of the advertisement space on the new cars. The space is yours for the expected 20+ years life of the car. For only $1250 you can have an 11" high x 16" wide space to advertise your business. Please check out the "Adopt-A-Car" program and call for special offers and payment plans. Please keep up the good work and do everything needed to continue to do to provide the highest level of service and safety possible to the community. I will continue to invite anyone who wants to help out around the track to do so. If you are not sure what needs to be done, someone is at the track every Saturday around 10 or 11:00.A.M. Please volunteer for one or more of our working committees, by writing your name on the list posted on the bulletin board. We are so grateful for the support we get from the community. But if you want to contribute your time and talents to our organization, we welcome new members. To find out how to become a member or just to learn more about our organization, please contact club members at the information tent, on run days, or come to one of our meeting which are every 3rd Saturday at 10:30 A.M.
