President's Message

Summer is here!

5/13/2009 8:12:52 AM

Summer is here! The 4th of July is this week. We have been real busy this month and will continue to ramp up our efforts to make this Summer better than all the rest. For the first time, we will be open Saturday July 4th (12:00-4:00) and Sunday July 5th (11:00-3:00). Please make plans to make us part of your family Independence Day celebration on one or both of these days.

I want to thank everyone who attended our first annual "Golden Spike Day" ceremony. A special thanks to our honored guests, City of Torrance Commissioners Mr. Steve Skull and Mrs. Reva Skull. They drove the first two of eight "Golden Spikes".  Linda, Heather, Kelley, Daniel, Jillian, and Harlan drove the other six, to mark 140 years since the completing of the Transcontinental Railroad (May 10th 1869). Phil M.C.’d the event like a pro.

We are continuing to look for ways to raise funds to purchase new riding cars and make improvements to the train park. We spent over $3,000 on facility improvements and landscaping, in the past months. We installed four new red light "Safety Signals" replaced an old retaining wall in the train yard steaming area. The new wall should look familiar, it has stylized arches cast into the concrete which resemble the Torrance viaduct. Please help us to continue to make these kinds of improvements and help us purchase new riding cars, by checking out all of our donation options on this web site or place a donation in our donation box during any of our run days.

I would like to thank all of our public riders for their continued support. The kind words of thanks and encouragement are priceless to the members who give of their time and talents to keep the trains running safety. Without you we could not provide such a high level of service to the community.

I invite all club members who wants to help out around the track to do so. If you are not sure what needs to be done, someone is at the track every Saturday around 10 or 11:00.A.M. Please volunteer for one or more of our working committees, by writing your name on the list posted on the bulletin board. There are always plenty of weeds.

We always welcome new members to our team. To find out how to become a member or just to learn more about our organization, please contact club members at the information tent, on run days, or come to one of our meetings which are held on the 3rd Saturday of each month at 10:30 A.M.

THANK YOU!
