We have had a few rained out public rides days don't let it get you down there's good weather coming. We have some interesting projects planned for this year that the members and public should enjoy. To make things interesting there's some new equipment that members have built or purchased running around the club tracks. Recently we have had some new members join the group we look forward to sharing our hobby with them. If you are interested in a membership you will need to come to one of our mouthly general membership meetings. They are on the third Saturday of each month starting at 10:30AM you will need to fill out a membership application. Members that plan on participating in regular outings at the facility or in giving public train rides will need to get the free fingerprinting and fill out a city of Torrance volunteer form provided by the city of Torrance community volunteer program. It doesn't take much time to get the free fingerprinting done or filling out the form. Since we work closely with the public and we hold our members to a high standard the fingerprinting and a operations safety test is necessary for are members to do yearly. We do have a supporting membership available to persons that are not interested in volunteering to give public train rides. New members are on a six month probation period and will need to go through a fairly simple operation training program. SCLS Memberships are considered family memberships so you only need to pay for one membership and all of your immediate family members can injoy SCLS. If you are interested in our group and would like to come out and see if it's something you would like to be part of. There is no obligation to join just stop by on any Tuesday after 11:00 at the drive way gate and flag a member down and they will let you in and you can look around and talk with the members on hand. You can also come out to one of the public ride day and talk with the staff and they can help you with any questions you may have. If you're a member of another livestream club and would like to run your equipment around the SCLS layout you are always welcome. We do not have a spring or fall meet but we do have club events that you can participate in. We have a nice track layout that has over one a half miles of main line that is fun to run on. We do have several parking sidings we have added in the last few years but there is a limited amount of available train space. You can came out on any Tuesday mid morning but it's always best to send a email to the president on this site, on the Southern California Live steamers Facebook page, or the Friends of Southern California Live steamers Facebook page messenger. You can also come on out at one of our public ride days and run before or after we give train rides. If space is available you can run your train during public train rides but not allowed to give rides to the public. You will be provided with club radios so you can keep in contact with the dispatcher and other train crews. Steam locomotives will be required to have a current boiler inspection certification from your club. SCLS President Tom Downing |
